Silvia Sara Canetto, Ph.D., is a Professor of Psychology at Colorado State University, USA. She has graduate degrees from Italy, Israel, and the USA. Her theoretical and empirical work on gender norms of suicide, specifically on cultural scripts of gender and suicidal behavior, has contributed to a paradigm shift in suicide studies. She is author of over 200 publications, including a 1998 article entitled “The gender paradox in suicide” (co-authored with Sakinofsky), which is the second most-cited article in Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior. Prof. Canetto has received recognition for her innovative and impactful suicide work, including the American Association of Suicidology’s Dublin Award.
